About us
Popshop was created by three music loving friends in the Worldly Wicked and Wise art gallery in the heart of Queens Park. Dave, Lee and Tris. DLT. Thankfully nothing to do with the hairy cornflake! Fed up by the lack of live music venues and live music in the area , they curated and engineered an event that has gradually evolved into nights of beguiling live music performance and artistry.
Since June 2023 Popshop (starting on Wednesday nights) has featured some of the areas most talented performers amongst an ever changing background of paintings, photographs and art. There’s been session players, young musicians from the local Institute of contemporary music performance, opera singers, slam poetry, live painting of the nights performers, country jazz and soul bands, singer songwriters and collaborations of all the above. Uniquely the event is free and the bar and toilets are across the road in the Salusbury pub, meaning the performers get the full attention of the audience. There’s also free pizza slices from Pizza Pilgrim and the Salusbury Pub. The sound in the gallery is superb and mixed digitally from an iPad.
Popshop is always looking for new performers so please get in touch if you feel you have something special/or know someone good to bring to the show. Donations to the artists are happily accepted in the salad bowl of cash on the pizza table. Sign up to our mailing list for future events , normally posted a week or two before the event. We have now moved the dates to a regular (as much as possible) Thursday night as we always seemed to clash with football and a couple of recent music nights in the area.
